May 4, 1963 Today, I find myself grappling with a mixture of emotions and thoughts regarding our movement and our fellow leaders. The struggle for equality has brought us all together, but our approaches and priorities sometimes diverge. Malcolm's fiery rhetoric and advocacy for self-defense weigh heavily on my mind. While I understand the frustration that fuels his message, I worry that it could undermine the nonviolent principles that I hold dear. Yet I truly do respect his passion and unwavering dedication to our cause and our differences are simply a testament to the complexity of our movement. The Birmingham campaign, and
the events that unfolded at the 16th Street Baptist Church, still haunt my thoughts. The tragic bombing that took the lives of those four girls reminds me of the depth of hatred that we're up against. It stresses the urgency of our struggle and the sacrifices we must make. As we navigate these tumultuous times, I find myself yearning for unity among all Civil Rights leaders and activists. Our common goal is a more just America, and though our paths may diverge, our commitment to equality should always bind us together. We must continue to march forward, shoulder to shoulder, as
we confront the pervasive injustice that plagues our society. Martin Luther King.
