To Commissioner of Police
Replying to your minute of the 16th inst., respecting the half-caste children
from the North, I think it might be arranged that the Kimberley children should be
collected at Derby, and that arrangements should be made with some lady travelling
from thence to Fremantle, not Geraldton, to care for them on the voyage, for which
service she will be remunerated by this Department. On arrival the children will be
met by arrangement. Any expenses will, of course, be defrayed by us.
The child from Dalgety Downs can be placed in the charge of the stewardess
of the S.S. “Bambra”, who would hand her over to my officer at Fremantle.
The girl from Sandstone would of course be sent by train when a suitable
opportunity occurred. She should be booked to Mogumber Station.
I might add that I should be glad to have any particulars which the Police can
supply respecting the parentage of these children.
Regards,
A.O Neville
