my dearest jody as i sit here beside you holding your hand and watching you take each
My dearest Jody,
As I sit here beside you, holding your hand and watching you take each labored breath, my heart feels heavy with sadness and my eyes are brimming with tears. Yet, in the midst of this sorrow, I am overwhelmed with a love so deep that it fills me with gratitude and joy for the time we have shared together.
From the moment I laid eyes on you, I knew that you were the one I had been waiting for. You were so different from any man I had ever known - strong and powerful, yet kind and gentle. Your
confidence and ambition inspired me, and your love made me feel like the most important person in the world. I had believed you saved me. From my abusive husband, my dreadful town, and a life that I had never foreseen for myself. Your words touched my heart in a way that made me feel seen and made me fall for you instantly. But it wasn't real. Your promises of a better life, a better marriage, they were a lie. And I had remained so blissfully unaware for all these years. I had tried to protect the image of you I
had created in my head. The one of a lawful husband who only desired what was best for me. But looking at you now I realized that you were never the flesh and blood figure of my dreams. (Chapter 6) Though if that were true, you would not have treated me the way you did all this time. If only you had endured what I had endured at your hand. You would not have survived. I could've gone my whole life without revealing this to you, but lately, the weight of your abuse had just mulled too heavy on me.
And now, as I watch you slip away from me, I am grateful for every moment we have shared. I am grateful for the joy and laughter, the tears and the pain, the triumphs and the setbacks. Most of all, I am grateful for the love that has sustained us through it all.
As you leave this world, know that you will always be a part of me. Rest easy, Love,
Janie
