LETTER FROM THE ADMINISTRATION OF LEWIS D. PENTONY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL sdyf2, Principal Pentony Elementary School 3450 W. Everglade Cir. Chandler, AZ, 85224 (249)-330-2480 13/11/1984 Dear Parents/Guardians, Subject: Important: Regarding Incident at Pentony Elementary School I hope this letter finds you and your family safe and well. I am writing to provide you with an important update regarding a recent incident that occurred at Pentony Elementary School. On March 10, 1984, a fire broke out in a section of our school, resulting in damage to the 6th-grade wing. The safety and well-being of our students and staff are always our top priorities, and I want to assure you that
all necessary safety protocols were immediately activated. I am devastated to inform you that as a result of the fire, we have suffered a heartbreaking loss. Unfortunately, 5 of our dedicated staff members have tragically passed away. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to their families and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Additionally, 2 staff members have been sent to Chandler General hospital for treatment. We are closely monitoring their conditions and sending them all the support and well wishes for a full and speedy recovery. Moreover, a total of 41 children sustained injuries during the evacuation and 4 children
have tragically passed away. This is an immense loss for our school community, and we are devastated by the impact of this tragedy. Our local fire department responded swiftly and efficiently, containing the fire and minimizing the damage to the school building. However, due to the extent of the damage, the [specify area] will be temporarily closed for repairs and restoration. Please know that we are working diligently to assess the situation and begin the necessary reconstruction efforts as soon as possible. In the meantime, we have made arrangements for the affected students to be temporarily relocated to Holmes Junior High School
(HJHS), which is also within the Chandler Unified School District (CUSD). Our staff has been working closely with the faculty at HJHS to ensure a smooth transition for our students. Additionally, in the event of any overflow of students from the 6th grade, further arrangements have been made for transfers to Andersen Junior High School (AJHS), another distinguished CUSD school. Every effort will be made to accommodate the students and provide them with a supportive and nurturing environment during the transition period. The safety of our students remains our utmost priority, and we will continue to work closely with the authorities to
ensure that the school is safe for everyone to return. Rest assured that we are taking all necessary steps to minimize disruptions to your child's education during this time. We understand that this news may be overwhelming and deeply distressing. Please know that counseling services and support will be available for students, families, and staff members who may need it. We encourage you to reach out to us if you or your child require any assistance or support. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at (249)-330-2480. I want to express my sincere gratitude
for your understanding, cooperation, and support during this unimaginably difficult time. Together, as a strong and resilient community, we will overcome this obstacle and emerge even stronger. Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education. We will provide regular updates as we progress with the restoration efforts. Sincerely, sdyf2 Principal Pentony Elementary School
