Dear Brother,
I recently came across Egyptian mythology, and I thought I'd share the story of the lotus flower. At the beginning, there was nothing but flux and fluid, watery chaos, a swamp of nothing. From the swampy waters arises a creature named Nun, whose emptiness has sprouted into a lotus flower. The lotus emerged from a single mound of dry land and then bloomed. As it boomed, its pedals revealed the Sun god, Atum or Ra. Now, the lotus is interpreted in many different ways, but most cultures associate the flower with purity, beauty, and, most importantly, resilience. Its
sacredness comes from its ability to blossom through murky waters and still cultivate into a beautiful and unique flower.
This story of the lotus flower reminded me of you.
Growing up, I've always realized that you have a gift. You're able to connect with others, speak your mind, stand your ground, listen, and create. Like many artists, you have a specific energy to best describe it: it's powerful, warm, and spirited. Now, as you grow older, gain new experiences, adapt, overcome, and live, I hope you continue using your energy as fuel for your work. When I was learning how to paint
this year, I thought the technique was most important, but that's not necessarily true. The truth is, like in music, art should resonate with the artist's energy and, most importantly, make you feel something. Like the lotus, you have been through many trials in life, but I hope you continue to use your gift and create more art this year.
In short, I'm incredibly proud of you, Brother. You've been through hell and back, and I admire your strength and ability to turn your pain into words that flow into art. Like gold, I hope you realize that your words are
valuable. You have a gift like no other, and I hope you continue to nurture it, and trust me, it will grow into something like no other.
I love you.
And I hope this new year is a blessed one
Love one of your biggest fans,
Jenna
P.S. If you ever feel as if you're surrounded by murky waters, remember that the lotus inevitably resurrects itself through the mud and emerges into the sunlight.
