France
Dear Charles IX,
As I am the Regent Mother, there is no doubt in my mind that you were by far the best man to take over France. I know that you are close to William Of Orange but I have a gut feeling about him. I think and have heard around that William Of Orange is going to try to overthrow you, my son, by working with the Huguenots. Not only does he want to take over but I tell you the truth here to let you know that if Spain were to be upset about you working with William Of Orange, there is a possible chance that we would not be able to recover from such war. Philip II also has much more resources and his army is bigger: the largest in the world. I know that you two have already had the plan to kill Philip II, but it is only in a mother's best interest to have my son come first before anyone else. I want to protect you and make sure that, as long and you are King, you are safe.
As your mother, I will let you do anything you please to make sure that you do not get taken over by William. Sincerely, Catherine De' Medici
