Dear Mr. Robinson,
First of all, I would like to thank you for everything you have done for not only me but also my community and our rapidly changing nation. Ever since you walked on Ebbets field for your first time, you have inspired me to make a change in the world. I can still remember that day like it was yesterday. My friends and I were sitting in my room as I turned the dial on my dusty GPO Winchester radio, and we all got a little closer as the static started to fade. Unfortunately, the fans weren’t too pleased. Their endless jeering and racist remarks funneled out of the speaker like billowing smoke out of a burning house, but that didn’t stop ya. You responded with you game...your hits, your steals, and your legendary ball playing. You didn’t respond with hate, you responded with respect. You didn’t let the resistance stop you in your efforts. Reverend Jackson couldn’t have said it any better: “When Jackie took the field, something reminded us of our birthright to be free.”
You showed us that we can achieve our goals with determination, and my friends and I are going to just that. We don’t exactly know what we are doing yet, but we know it’s going to be some kind of protest (peaceful of course). My of waiting around and hoping for things to change, and you inspired us to take action.
Thanks you,
Joseph McNeil
