dearest philosophers i will be hosting a dinner at my home in the republic of venice
Dearest philosophers,
I will be hosting a dinner at my home in the Republic of Venice overlooking the beautiful village, Arquà. Although we may not see eye to eye, I would like to invite you over to have a lively discussion on the topic of the Humanist movement.
The dinner menu will be as follows:
Aperitivo: White Bread with Olive Oil
Antipasto: Taleggio and Salami
Primi: Cheese and Cinnamon Pasta
Secondi: Roasted Boar and Peacock
Dolce: Pears, Peaches, Oranges, Grapes and Apples
Beverages: Red wine from Naples, White wine from Chianti
Please dress appropriately and in accordance with the laws. If you are a Pope or priests you should wear your cassock and cope when attending. Whereas, those who do not hold a position in the church should wear “more elaborately shaped and decorated” clothes with “distinguished cuts and ornaments.” You may also dine in clothes that are “trimmed in gold thread” and “embroidered with flowers and leaves.”
I hope you will be in attendance at this very special dinner of mine.
Sincerely,
Francesco Petrach
