Dearest children, This is for you to read after I am long gone. I wanted to tell you some of the things that have happened in my life that you might not have known about. I also wanted to tell you that I love you dearly and I don't want power to get in the way of your relationships with each other and other loved ones. I will begin with the story of how I met Julius Caesar. He had been in a war with a roman leader named Pompey. Caesar was pursuing him after he fled into Egypt, before he could
get to him though he was assassinated. Now being in Egypt for no specific reason he went home, I arranged to meet him and rolled myself up in a carpet and had me delivered to his home where I accidentally almost surprised him to death. I guess that I captivated him in some way or another because he made me his mistress. Soon after we took back Egypt from my brother and I gave birth to your brother Ptolemy Caesar. Not long after I had given birth Julius Caesar was assassinated. A few years after Caesars death I met
Mark Antony for the second time when he called upon me for help in battle. A little while after I came to his aid, we fell madly in love and dropped the war we were fighting and went off together. Antony eventually went back to another general Octavian and married his sister Octavia. Soon after their marriage Antony abandoned them and came to live with be with me again, and that is when I conceived the twins, Alexander Helios and Cleopatra Selene. Three years after the birth of the twins Antony and I get married and a year after that
I conceive another child, Ptolemy Philadelphus. Octavian was outraged by all that had happened and so he sent forces which drove Antony and I to flee to different areas. Antony got false word that I had died and so he stabbed himself, and then he learned that I was alive, so he found me and died in my arms. I have now been taken captive by Rome and am about to commit suicide. I just wanted to write you all this one last letter and tell you that I am sorry and that I love you. Would you please have them burry me
next to Mark Antony? - Your loving mother, Cleopatra
