December 16, 1773 Dear King George III I would like you to open up the Boston Harbor because many people that are merchants, like me, need to be able to get and sell our tea. But by Parliament, passing the law that let the British East India Tea Company sell their tea, has made us run out of business. By making this law, Parliament and you have hurt us merchants because we have to pay the taxes on more expensive teas. All of us merchants can not stop worrying because of everybody who keeps buying the East India Tea and we’re just paying extra money for good tea that nobody's buying. Many of the colonist are starting to smuggle the tea to where they don’t have to pay Parliament and you. I’m really trying hard to avoid conflict with Parliament and other colonist, but rebellion is the only way to make Parliament and you to listen to us for a change.
